Dr. Kukowska-Latallo received her M.S. in Microbiology from the University of Warsaw, Poland and her Ph.D. in Immunology from the Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland. After a brief fellowship in France, she began her postdoctoral training in molecular biology at the Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO. She continued with a fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical School and Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Ann Arbor, MI. She participated in the initial 3-year effort of the Human Genome Project at the Human Genome Center of the University of Michigan.

Dr. Kukowska-Latallo is an immunologist and a molecular biologist with broad experience in gene cloning, expression, and regulation. She has developed bioactive dendritic polymers (dendrimers) for in vitro and in vivo gene transfer applications. She is a co-inventor of bioactive and/or targeted dendrimer conjugates, and she has worked for several years in the area of gene transfer therapy using non-viral vectors. Her current research interests are in developing anticancer nanoparticles targeted into animal models of human cancers based on well-defined dendritic polymer platforms. In the area of immunology she is interested in studying gene- or protein- based vaccines using chemically defined nanoemulsion as an adjuvant and microcidal agent. Additionally, she is a participant in the development of a clinical research study on nasal mucosal gene expression in patients with allergic rhinitis.
